MARCH 12TH, 2010

MARCH 13: Sam's Town 5k Charity Coin Toss
Gather your friends, family, co-workers, etc and come to Sam's Town Tunica to play "The World's Largest Coin Toss". The room will be split in half (heads and tails) and they will keep flipping until one person is left. That person will win $5,000 for the charity they represent!! The more people we have on the floor, the BETTER our chances of winning $5,000 for Girl Scouts Heart of the South!

Doors open at 7 p.m. There will also be Karaoke, dancing, a light buffet, adult beverages, and lots of door prizes. Only persons 21 and over will be allowed into the venue. Grab everyone you can and meet us at Sam's Town Casino to support Girl Scouts Heart of the South.


MARCH 15: WOMEN IN ENGINEERING
Mississippi University for Women's Department of Sciences and Mathematics Science Enrichment Program presents Women in Engineering. Learn about the various fields and careers in engineering and participate in Mission Eggcellence, where you will learn Physics concepts that are related to car crashes, vehicular design and safety problems facing today's car manufacturers. This includes building and testing models to protect a raw egg.

Open registration for female students grades 8-12th. Spots are limited. This workshop is FREE!

MARCH 20: FAMILY FARM FEST
In celebration of National Agriculture Day, Our Family Farm, LLC is hosting a FAMILY FARM FEST. The theme for National Ag Day is "Agriculture: Abundant, Affordable, Amazing." The Fest will take place from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Demonstrations will include
a variety of horse riding/driving events, Educational sessions on gardening, irrigation, insects (with an entomologist), and firearms (with local game wardens) will be taking place throughout the fest. Exhibits will focus on the production of food and fiber crops including cotton, corn, rice, soybeans, and pecans. We also have a hay ride that showcases our farming equipment, horses, and cattle. Concessions, farm games, door prizes and souvenirs will also be available.

The FAMILY FARM FEST will be held at 14281 State Line Rd., off of Center Hill Road, in DeSoto County, MS on a modern, working family farm. Admission is $5 per person (children under age 2 admitted for free), with a portion of the proceeds being donated to local chapters of Future Farmers of America.



MARCH 21: SPRING INTO GREEN WITH USGBC
North MS Branch of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) is hosting a green fair, “Spring Into Green”, at Fairpark (in front of
City Hall) from 2pm-5pm. There will be live music from The Benders, a compact fluorescent light (CFL) giveaway, recycling centers, drinks, food, kids’ activities, and several vendors with “green” booths on recycling, green building materials & other sustainable alternatives. We want to invite the public to join us for a FREE afternoon of family fun.

MARCH 26-28: FINE CRAFTS FAIR
Memphis Association of Craft Artists and Christian Brothers University have once again come together to produce their spring Fine Crafts Fair. The show and sale will be held March 26 – 28, 2010, in the Canale Arena on the CBU campus. On display will be fine craft in a wide range of mediums, including pottery, glass, wood, and much more. Girl Scout volunteer Pat Moody will have artwork on display.

A wine and cheese reception will be held on Friday, March 26, from 5:00 pm—9:00 pm. The market will be open and all artists will be in attendance. The hours for the show will be 10:00 am—6:00 pm on Saturday, March 27 and 11:00 am—5:00 pm on Sunday, March 28. Parking will be available in the Central Avenue lot. This event is free and open to the public.

JULY 2010: THE ALLIANCE FOR A HEALTHIER GENERATION
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a partnership between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, is searching for a select group of young people to serve on our Youth Advisory Board (for 2010-2011) and roll up their sleeves for a few hours a month of critical thinking, engaging conversations, good fun, new friendships, and high-profile leadership.

Applicants must be between the ages of 8 and 17 years old when membership begins July 2010 and live in the United States. Interested youth can visit empowerme2b.org for more information.
